Starting from Machha Khola, the trail gradually ascends along the Budi Gandaki River to Larkya La (5,160 m/16,929 ft), a high mountain pass. You will cross numerous suspension and wooden bridges along the way and come across lovely waterfalls and stunning glaciers. Traversing through lush forests of rhododendrons, pine, and bamboo, the trail ascends to ridges and passes by landslide-prone areas. While trekking, you will spend nights in Tibetan refugee villages, too.
The Manaslu circuit trek route is considered offbeat and, therefore only recommended for trekking with previous high-altitude experience and strong fitness. This trek is one of the great alternatives to the Annapurna circuit trek if you are looking for a less crowded trail. Manaslu Circuit Trek is a tea house trek. The accommodation along the trekking route is simple yet quite comfortable, given the remoteness of the region.
The locals are friendly and welcoming. Many of them follow Tibetan Buddhism and are descendants of Tibetans. The lifestyle of the locals and their beliefs & culture will provide you with a very refreshing perspective on life. While trekking, you will also come across many stupas, mani walls, and monasteries.
You will get to witness mesmerizing landscapes and diverse mountain panorama of Manaslu (8,163 m/26,781 ft), Shringi Himal (7,155 m/23,474 ft), Annapurna II (7,937 m/26,040 ft), Nagadi Chuli (7,871 m/25,823 ft), Himlung Himal (7126 m/23,379 ft), Mt. Kang Guru (6,981 m/22,903 ft), and many others.
